volunteers needed for 2020
June 27 - July 12, 2020
Program Dates: June 29 - July 10
Director: Kate Ryan
WIESCO is thrilled to return to Plunge, Lithuania in 2020 for our 5th English language program. Together we will provide a two-week immersive language and culture experience for regional students ranging in age from 11 to 17.
The students are reasonably proficient to very conversant in English and there is no need for our volunteers to know Lithuanian! You will find that your students and host student assistants will be very eager to show you around town and be interpreters.
Plunge is conveniently located about 50 minutes from the Baltic coast and popular seaside resort towns of Palanga and Nida (almost certain to be a weekend excursion for volunteers in 2020). The town of about 19,000 people dates back to at least the 16th century. It is walkable, full of history, and unique architectural sites like Plunge Manor.
Vilnius (the Lithuanian capital) and Riga (Latvian capital) are about equidistant from Plunge.
Kate Ryan has instructed in two WIESCO programs in Siauliai, Lithuania and is thrilled to be directing the program in Plunge. Kate works at the University of Minnesota, coordinating programs for students to explore majors and careers. In her free time, she can be found biking around Minneapolis with her husband Nick, crafting, singing, and cuddling her cats.
