GENERAL CONDITIONS (Please read carefully before applying for summer programs.)
1. A fee of $300.00 for teachers, or $200.00 for students, is required with
your application form. If you are not accepted as a participant, the fee will
be returned. An application
form and health
form should be returned at your earliest convenience.
2. We will notify you of your acceptance for the teaching program after your
completed application is reviewed and references are received. We ask that our
teachers be qualified and experienced. Elementary, secondary and college teachers
are most welcome. Folks with other experiences and training are also encouraged
to apply. Knowledge of the foreign language is not necessary.
3. You will also be responsible for your airfare to and from the host country
airport where we will be picked up by camp personnel. The WIESCO-designated
travel agency will contact you directly about airline reservations. We strongly
encourage you to travel with the group because we have found, from past experience,
that we’re all more likely to arrive at the same place at the same time if we
travel together. If you do choose to make your own travel plans, you are responsible
for arriving in the host country in time to meet your camp colleagues who will
be arriving in a group. Of course, you will need to send us a detailed itinerary
of your travel plans. We anticipate that the airfare arranged through our travel
agent will be between $1500 and $2100.
4. While at the camp, room and board are provided. The camp will also provide week-end excursions
for us. Please be aware that you may be responsible for part, or all, of the after-camp excursion, if
you choose to participate in it. This excursion is typically a three or four day trip to interesting sites or
to the capital city of the country. Additionally most teachers spend some money before camp, getting
their materials ready for working at the camp.
5. Participants should be in good health. The travel at times can be exhausting
and one needs to be prepared for it. Please make sure to have comfortable shoes
for walking, as you will do much more walking than is customary in the U.S.
6. PASSPORTS are the responsibility of the participant and the passport must
be valid six months beyond your date of return from the foreign country. For
travel to Poland, Lithuania, Macedonia and Latvia a VISA is NOT required for
U.S.citizens. Inoculations may be necessary for travel to these countries, so
please check with your medical center.
7. After the three-week teaching program the Polish authorities sponsor a short trip in Poland that ends in Warsaw for which they provide the room and board. In Latvia a short trip will be organized for three days in Riga or Vilnius. In Lithuania, a trip will be provided either to Vilnius, Riga, or the coastal city of Klaipeda. Planning is in progress for an excursion in Macedonia. You may be responsible for part, or all, of the after-camp excursion, if you choose to participate in it.
8. An ORIENTATION MEETING will be held in the Spring of 2010; the date will
be set later. This day-long meeting will acquaint the teachers and students
with the program. ATTENDANCE at this meeting is required and is very important
for the success of the program. We will try to arrange a location that will
be central for the participants and the meeting will begin about 10:00 am and
last throughout the day.
9. Make sure to check your health insurance policy concerning coverage while
on foreign travel. Should there be a need for medical treatment you will need
to provide cash payment at the time of treatment and then be reimbursed by your
insurance carrier.
10. Payment for the airfare is due at a date set by the travel agent.
Please return your application
and health
form by March 1st
